The Diploma in Radiotherapeutic Technology (DRT) is a specialized technical paramedical program that trains healthcare professionals to administer precise doses of ionizing radiation (such as X-rays, gamma rays, and electron beams) to treat cancer patients under the supervision of Radiation Oncologists and Medical Physicists. Unlike diagnostic radiology (which focuses on imaging to detect diseases), radiotherapeutic technology focuses strictly on therapeutic oncology interventions, equipment setup (Linear Accelerators, Telecobalt units, Brachytherapy), treatment simulation, patient immobilization, and computer-assisted radiation treatment planning.
